About

Ivan Sen burst onto the Australian film scene with his fresh and immediate filmmaking in this first feature Beneath Clouds 2002. Lena (Dannielle Hall), the daughter of an Aboriginal mother and absent Irish father, hitchhikes from Moree to Sydney after another argument at home. Along the way she meets Vaughan (Damian Pitt), who has escaped from a prison farm to visit his dying mother. Both are altered, hardened and disillusioned by their experiences of racism. Their conversation is written across a series of compelling landscapes. At the core of this film is a quest for a safe and meaningful sense of place, captured and framed by Ivan Sen's signature visual shots of cars passing by his main characters.
