About
Known for inventing his own history and hype, Fellini crafts a fascinating portrait of his working method in this documentary. The film moves through a variety of scenes from the location of a failed feature film project to encountering prostitutes and centurions amongst ruins on the Appian Way to visiting Marcello Mastroianni during a photoshoot in his villa. Acclaimed actress Giulietta Masina makes a brief appearance talking about her husband’s filmmaking and her experience working on Nights of Cabiria 1955. Throughout casting sessions, filming on set and location scouting, this behind-the-scenes documentary, that is never quite clear what is fact and fiction, is a dive into Fellini’s imagination, visual and thematic fascinations.
