About
Abel Ferrara’s gritty guerilla vampire film was shot on the streets of New York in luscious monochrome with a single camera. Dealing with questions of evil and redemption, sunlight and shadow become symbols of the collapse of moral order.
Kathleen Conklin (Lili Taylor), a grad student at NYU, lives a life steeped in existential philosophy. When she is bitten by an elegant woman (Annabella Sciorra) as she walks home one night, her world begins to transform. Shunning daylight and craving blood, she is schooled in curbing her junkie yearnings by fellow vampire Peina (Christopher Walken). However, her addiction to blood is hard to temper, and not even Catholic guilt can quell her need for gory catharsis.
