Multi award-winning Brisbane-based production company Like a Photon Creative (LAPC) craft compelling stories for children across film, television, and interactive media.

From a Tasmanian tiger looking for a sense of place and belonging to a wombat who unexpectedly becomes a superhero, these heart-felt animations take Australian animals to the international stage.

Formed in 2014, the company was founded by writer Nadine Bates and producer Kristen Souvlis who met whilst working together at Channel Ten. Like a Photon Creative has gone on to become a powerhouse of film production and are part of a small group of trailblazing women in the Australian Animation industry.

Across seven films, they’ve worked with the voice talents of some of Australia’s leading actors including Deborah Mailman, Sam Neill, Miranda Tapsell, Angourie Rice and Frank Woodley. Running alongside the ‘Spectacles of Wonder’ film program, this spotlight series celebrates the unstoppable creativity of LAPC. Screenings will feature the internationally acclaimed ‘Tales from Sanctuary City’ films (which includes The Wishmas Tree 2019, Combat Wombat 2020, Daisy Quokka 2020, Combat Wombat: Back 2 Back 2023, and The Sloth Lane 2024) as well as the company’s most recent feature The Lost Tiger 2025, is the first animated feature from Australia to be written and directed an Indigenous woman.
